PHNOM PENH, May 7, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia recorded a decline in road accidents, fatalities and injuries in 2025 following intensified traffic law enforcement and stronger cooperation among authorities and development partners, officials said Wednesday.

The figures were presented during a national road safety review at the Ministry of Interior, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha. The meeting was attended by Public Works and Transport Minister Peng Ponea, who serves as permanent vice chairman of the National Road Safety Committee, alongside representatives from government institutions, international organizations, development partners and the private sector.

According to the committee, Cambodia recorded 2,345 traffic accidents in 2025, down 18 percent from 2,844 cases in 2024. Traffic related deaths fell 3 percent to 1,467 fatalities, compared with 1,509 a year earlier, while injuries declined 14 percent to 3,213 cases, including 1,869 serious injuries. Authorities noted that 58 percent of all accidents occurred at night.

As part of stricter enforcement, authorities penalized 47,388 vehicles for traffic violations. Motorcycles and tricycles accounted for 60 percent of cases, while cars and other vehicles represented 40 percent.

The decline to stronger cooperation among national and local authorities, development partners and private stakeholders, combined with expanded enforcement measures nationwide.
