PHNOM PENH, June 15, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Colombia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following the presentation of credentials by Colombia’s newly appointed ambassador to the Kingdom.

Ambassador Alicia Alejandra Alfaro Castillo met Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on Monday to formally begin her diplomatic mission.

Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the envoy on behalf of King Norodom Sihamoni and congratulated her on her appointment.

He noted that despite their geographical distance, Cambodia and Colombia have maintained friendly relations and share opportunities to expand cooperation across multiple fields.

The ambassador thanked Samdech Techo for receiving her and pledged to work toward enhancing relations during her tenure.

She said both countries were seeking to deepen engagement through bilateral and international mechanisms, including future political consultations.

Castillo praised Cambodia’s development progress and stressed the importance of strengthening exchanges between the two nations.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted the need to explore new areas of collaboration and expressed appreciation for Colombia’s contribution to Cambodia’s peace process through its participation in the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia in the early 1990s.

He said continued dialogue would help reinforce friendship and cooperation.
