PHNOM PENH, June 15, 2026 (KPT) — Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Indonesia climbed to more than $551 million in the first five months of 2026, driven by strong growth in Cambodian exports and expanding economic exchanges between the two ASEAN partners, official data showed Monday.

The General Department of Customs and Excise said total trade from January to May rose 17.4 percent year‑on‑year. Cambodia’s exports surged 43.4 percent to $47 million, while imports from Indonesia increased 15.5 percent to $503 million.

Cambodia’s shipments consisted mainly of agricultural products, processed food, garments and manufactured goods. Imports from Indonesia included fuel, machinery, food products, construction materials and consumer goods.

Commerce Ministry spokesman Penn Sovicheat said the expansion reflects Cambodia’s ability to maintain access to key markets and strengthen its role in regional supply chains. “The growth in trade demonstrates that Cambodia continues to preserve its important export markets, ensure supply chain connectivity, strengthen its position in regional value chains, and maintain the confidence of international buyers,” he said.

Economist Dr. Hong Vannak of the Royal Academy of Cambodia attributed the increase to rising demand between the two countries, supported by strong diplomatic ties and government cooperation. He said favorable conditions were helping stimulate higher levels of trade and commercial activity.

Indonesia remains one of Cambodia’s important trading partners within ASEAN, with relations spanning agriculture, manufacturing, energy and consumer goods. In 2025, bilateral trade totaled more than $1.08 billion, with Cambodia exporting $67 million and importing about $1.02 billion.
