PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 12, 2025) — Cambodia and Vietnam on Thursday reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and comprehensive cooperation, pledging to deepen bilateral ties across all sectors and maintain close coordination within ASEAN and other international forums.

The commitment was made during a courtesy video call between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and Le Hoai Trung, Vietnam’s newly appointed acting minister of foreign affairs.

During the call, Prak Sokhonn congratulated Le on his recent appointment as acting foreign minister and secretary of the Party Committee of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two officials reflected on the recent visit of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, president of Cambodia’s Senate, to Vietnam on Sept. 1–2, where he attended the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day.

Hun Sen also held meetings with key Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man.

Prak Sokhonn highlighted the growing and balanced trade between the two countries and called for further diversification and strengthening of economic cooperation.

Both ministers reiterated their commitment to advancing bilateral relations and looked ahead to the 21st Meeting of the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Commission, expected to take place in the coming months.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional security. Prak Sokhonn briefed Le on recent progress in easing tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border, citing positive outcomes from the Special General Border Committee meeting held Sept. 10 in Koh Kong province.

He expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement and its contribution to the Interim Observer Team.
