Cambodia–Thailand trade drops nearly 15% in 2025 amid border closures
By Leng Deth
PHNOM PENH, Jan 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s trade with Thailand dropped sharply last year, falling nearly 15 percent to $3.65 billion compared with $4.29 billion in 2024, official data showed Friday.

Figures from the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) revealed that Cambodian exports to Thailand were valued at about $732 million, down 14.1 percent, while imports from Thailand fell 15 percent to $2.9 billion.
Commerce Ministry spokesman Penn Sovicheat said that despite the closure of land borders, bilateral trade continued through sea routes and via Laos. He noted that Cambodia bans certain imports such as vegetables, fruits, electricity, oil and gas, but other flows remain normal.

Cambodia has maintained its key global markets, ensuring supply chains and buyer confidence, Sovicheat added.
According to the ministry, Cambodia’s overall international trade reached $65.25 billion in 2025, up 18 percent from the previous year. Exports totaled $31.28 billion, rising 17 percent, while imports stood at $33.96 billion, an increase of 18 percent.
