Cambodia Denies Thai Claims of Border Weapons Build-Up, Calls Allegations False and Provocative

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 8, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence has rejected claims by Thailand’s military that Phnom Penh deployed heavy weapons along the frontier, calling the allegation misinformation aimed at inflaming tensions.

In a statement Monday, ministry spokeswoman Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said the official Thai Army page circulated “false information” alleging Cambodia had moved “heavy and destructive weapons and equipment” to border positions, later repeated by several Thai media outlets.

The ministry said the accusations “clearly contradict the truth” and risk misleading domestic and international audiences amid heightened tensions following recent clashes.

Officials insisted Cambodian forces had not violated the cease-fire agreement or the Joint Declaration on Peace signed by both countries.
“Cambodian forces have not undertaken any activity that breaches the cease-fire or contradicts the commitments made under the joint peace declaration,” Socheata said.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to respecting all agreements designed to reduce tensions and prevent escalation, pledging continued cooperation with Thailand “at all levels” to restore stability along the border.
