Cambodia’s $750 million deep sea port hits milestone, eyes global hub role
PHNOM PENH, April 2, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s plan to transform its main seaport into a regional logistics hub is advancing, with construction of a new deep sea container terminal at Sihanoukville reaching a key milestone, officials said Wednesday.
Phase 1 of the terminal has achieved more than 64 percent completion as of the end of March, according to project authorities. The development forms part of a $750 million expansion across three phases, designed to meet rising demand for maritime trade and cargo transport.

Once finished, the terminal – built with a depth of 14.5 metres – will allow Cambodia to accommodate larger container vessels and establish direct shipping routes to major global markets, reducing reliance on transshipment through neighbouring countries.
Officials described the project as a “money generating investment,” stressing its strategic importance in boosting national revenue and strengthening Cambodia’s role in regional supply chains.
Phase 1 construction is scheduled for completion in 2028, with Japan’s TOA Corporation serving as the main contractor.
