PREAH SIHANOUK, April 8, 2026 (KPT) – Authorities in Sihanoukville have unveiled major upgrades at Ochheuteal Beach alongside cultural festivities to attract visitors during the Khmer New Year, officials said Tuesday.

Governor Mang Sineth presided over the event, which combined the inauguration of new infrastructure with traditional Khmer performances and games under the theme “Smiles and Hope of Preah Sihanouk Province.”

Officials said the upgrades include improved parking, solar lighting, drainage systems, landscaping, pedestrian walkways, security facilities and renovated beachfront amenities. The improvements are designed to transform Ochheuteal Beach into a clean, modern and internationally competitive destination.

Beyond infrastructure, the event showcased Cambodia’s cultural heritage through traditional games and performances, promoting national identity while enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Authorities emphasized that the combined focus on tourism development and cultural celebration reflects a broader strategy to position Sihanoukville as a leading coastal hub. They urged the public and businesses to help maintain cleanliness and environmental standards to ensure sustainability and long-term growth.

The initiative highlights Cambodia’s push to leverage infrastructure investment and cultural assets to strengthen tourism recovery and boost economic activity during peak travel periods.
