China’s Wang Yi to Visit Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar for Regional Talks

PHNOM PENH, April 21, 2026 (KPT) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar from April 22 to 26 for talks aimed at reinforcing diplomatic ties and regional cooperation, Beijing’s foreign ministry announced Tuesday.
The trip, made at the invitation of his counterparts in the three countries, comes as China seeks to deepen engagement with its neighbours amid what officials describe as rapid global changes posing new risks and challenges.
In Phnom Penh, Wang will join Defence Minister Dong Jun for the first meeting of the China–Cambodia “2+2” strategic dialogue, a mechanism bringing together foreign and defence ministers from both sides.
The format, agreed during a previous high-level visit, is designed to enhance political trust, strategic communication and security cooperation.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the visit would help implement existing agreements, expand strategic cooperation and advance bilateral relations under Beijing’s “shared future” framework.
Chinese officials stressed that Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar are key partners, with cooperation seen as vital to regional stability, economic growth and prosperity.
The trip also comes as Cambodia pursues its “Pentagonal Strategy” development agenda, while Thailand and Myanmar navigate political transitions.
