South Korea Praises Cambodia’s Cyber Scam Crackdown in High‑Level Talks

PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and South Korea on Wednesday reaffirmed cooperation against cyber fraud and transnational crime during talks in Phnom Penh, with Seoul praising Cambodia’s enforcement drive.
Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, head of the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams, met South Korean Ambassador Kim Changyong for a courtesy call and working discussion.
Sinarith highlighted progress in security cooperation, stressing Cambodia’s commitment to dismantling organised cyber scam networks under the Law on Combating Technology‑Based Fraud.
He cited recent enforcement successes coordinated by the Anti‑Cyber Scam Commission, which operates under the prime minister’s leadership, and announced plans to host an international conference on combating technology‑based fraud.
Ambassador Kim welcomed Cambodia’s efforts and thanked the government for cooperation through the Cambodia‑Korea Joint Working Group.
He praised enforcement actions and legal reforms, saying Cambodia’s campaign could serve as an example for other countries.
He noted cyber fraud was a transnational crime requiring coordinated responses and commended Cambodian authorities for securing justice in a case involving a South Korean student victim.
Both sides discussed future cooperation, including information‑sharing, joint training and capacity‑building for law enforcement agencies.
Kim expressed confidence Cambodia would sustain its crackdown and said South Korea was keen to join the planned international conference.
