PHNOM PENH, June 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn has accepted an invitation to visit Malaysia and co-chair a key bilateral meeting, as the two countries prepare to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.

Prak Sokhonn received Malaysia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Shaharuddin bin Onn, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Phnom Penh on June 3.

During their talks, both sides reviewed progress in Cambodia-Malaysia relations, noting cooperation in political affairs, defence and security, trade and investment, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador Shaharuddin conveyed an invitation from Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamed Hasan, for Prak Sokhonn to make an official visit and co-chair the third Cambodia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), scheduled for later this year. The Cambodian minister accepted.

The two officials also discussed preparations to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027.

Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s role in facilitating efforts related to the Cambodia-Thailand border issue and for leading the ASEAN Observer Team in its capacity as ASEAN Chair.

He voiced confidence in Malaysia’s continued contribution to the matter and briefed the ambassador on recent developments along the border.
