HANOI, June 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on Tuesday called for the urgent and full implementation of a ceasefire agreement with Thailand, warning that the truce remains “fragile” as border tensions persist.

Speaking at the opening of the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia remained concerned about areas it considers under occupation.

“The ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand continues to hold, but it is fragile,” he said. “Borders and sovereignty must never be altered by force or fait accompli.”

He noted that both countries had reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful resolution and transforming the truce into lasting peace, including through the implementation of a joint statement agreed in December.

Samdech Thipadei urged both sides to fully carry out the agreement, particularly provisions on border surveying and demarcation under the Joint Border Committee framework.

“Both sides need to fully, effectively, and urgently implement the Joint Statement in its entirety,” he said, citing Point 3, which calls for the prompt resumption of survey and demarcation work.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also underlined the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations with Thailand, describing it as a close neighbour with shared interests in peace and prosperity.

He added that adherence to international law, treaties, dialogue and mutual respect was essential to restoring trust and enabling displaced populations to return home safely.

He praised ASEAN’s role in promoting stability through non‑interference, peaceful dispute settlement and confidence‑building measures, saying the bloc had helped transform Southeast Asia into a stable and dynamic region.
