TOKYO, June 11, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade, investment and connectivity following high‑level talks between senior leaders on the sidelines of the 31st Nikkei Forum in Tokyo, officials said Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau to discuss ways to deepen economic cooperation and promote greater cross‑border investment. The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, reflected the longstanding friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two neighbours.

Both sides exchanged views on expanding bilateral economic relations and creating new opportunities for businesses and investors. They expressed a shared commitment to increasing trade volumes and encouraging greater investment flows across the border.
A key focus was transportation and logistics connectivity. The two leaders emphasised the importance of improving infrastructure and strengthening links to facilitate trade and economic activity. They also discussed measures to improve services at border checkpoints, aiming to make cross‑border travel and goods transportation more efficient while reducing costs for businesses.
Chanthol and Chau voiced confidence that stronger connectivity and improved trade facilitation would contribute to greater economic integration and support sustainable growth. They expressed hope that the outcomes of the meeting would serve as a catalyst for advancing cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
Chanthol was representing Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Nikkei Forum, where he participated as an honorary speaker. Chau also delivered remarks at the event.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to building a more prosperous future through closer economic ties, enhanced connectivity and continued collaboration under the framework of the Cambodia–Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership.
According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce, bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$7.7 billion in 2025, underscoring the growing importance of economic cooperation in the relationship.
