Sun Chanthol Urges Japanese Investors to Contact Him Directly Over Business Challenges in Cambodia
OSAKA, June 14, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol has called on Japanese investors to reach out to him personally whenever they face difficulties in Cambodia, underscoring the government’s pledge to improve the business climate and swiftly address investor concerns, officials said Friday.
Chanthol, who also serves as First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), made the remarks Thursday during talks with business leaders from Osaka and the Kansai region at the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting focused on expanding Japanese investment in Cambodia.

Representatives from the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the ASEAN-Japan Centre, and major firms including Marubeni Corporation, Inabata, ITOCHU Corporation, and Hanwa attended the session.
Opening the event, Kyoko Hirose, Vice-Chair of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of Hirose Manufacturing, welcomed the Cambodian delegation on behalf of the Japanese business community.
Chanthol praised the longstanding role of Japanese companies in Cambodia, noting that many Kansai-based firms have expanded operations in the country. He stressed that direct communication with investors is vital to identifying and resolving challenges on the ground.
“I encourage companies to contact me directly whenever they face difficulties so that their concerns can be addressed promptly,” he said.
He added that the CDC works closely with relevant institutions to review business concerns and find practical solutions.
Addressing worries over online scam operations, Chanthol reiterated Phnom Penh’s “zero-tolerance” stance and said authorities are taking strong measures to eliminate such activities.
Participants exchanged views on Cambodia’s investment climate, business hurdles, and opportunities for closer cooperation between the government and private sector.
Chanthol highlighted ongoing efforts to streamline investment procedures, improve public services, develop infrastructure, and diversify Cambodia’s industrial base. He said boosting Japanese investment remains central to the country’s economic development strategy.
