Cambodian PM Hun Manet leaves for Russia to attend ASEAN–Russia summit

PHNOM PENH, June 17, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet departed for Russia on Tuesday to attend the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, where regional leaders will discuss cooperation, economic development and security issues, officials said.
Samdech Thipadei is leading a high‑level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron, senior officials and private‑sector representatives.
The summit, held June 17–18 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, marks the 35th anniversary of ASEAN–Russia dialogue relations.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the gathering will provide a platform for leaders to explore ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between ASEAN and Moscow.
Talks are expected to focus on peace, stability and economic growth, alongside broader regional and international concerns.
Putin is scheduled to host ASEAN leaders at a gala concert and dinner, with a plenary session, working lunch and separate bilateral meetings also on the agenda.
On the sidelines, Hun Manet will attend related events and hold talks aimed at expanding cooperation and reinforcing Cambodia’s ties with regional and global partners.
Government spokesman Pen Bona said the visit would allow the prime minister to exchange views on issues of common concern, with the aim of promoting peace, stability and prosperity.
He added that the trip would help strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.
