PHNOM PENH, June 29, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is promoting youth entrepreneurship by urging university students to design sustainable tourism solutions through the 2026 National Business Model Competition (BMC), officials said Sunday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron presided over the awards ceremony on Friday, stressing that innovation and entrepreneurship are vital for economic diversification, job creation and long-term competitiveness.

The contest, themed “Sustainable Tourism Innovation Challenge 2026,” was jointly organized by the National University of Management (NUM) and Griffith College Dublin, with support from the Embassy of Ireland.

Naron hailed the partnership between Cambodian and Irish institutions, saying it has enabled students to exchange knowledge, sharpen entrepreneurial skills and develop solutions to global challenges. He added that the initiative supports Cambodia’s drive to promote sustainable tourism, a key economic sector, while offering students a platform to turn ideas into ventures.

Entries came from universities nationwide, with 15 teams advancing to a bootcamp before being narrowed to five finalists. Each finalist team included two Cambodian students and one Irish student. The finalists later traveled to Ireland to refine their concepts before competing in the final round.

This year’s winners were OPEN EM, which won gold; DYNAM2C, which took silver; and CLAYMORE, which received bronze.
