PHNOM PENH, July 2, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will make an official visit to China in the near future to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic development and people‑to‑people exchanges, officials said Thursday.

Jean‑François Tain, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said the trip would build on agreements reached during Cambodian People’s Party President Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s recent visit to Beijing, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior leaders in late June.

“The Prime Minister’s visit to China will follow Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit and aims to implement the practical outcomes of the agreements reached between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and President Xi Jinping,” Tain said. He stressed that the two visits served different purposes but were closely linked.

Samdech Thipadei t is expected to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang, with talks centering on translating previous agreements into concrete cooperation in economic development, diplomacy and expanding exchanges between the two peoples.

China is Cambodia’s largest trading partner and a major source of investment. Bilateral trade reached nearly USD 19.7 billion in 2025, up almost 30 percent from the previous year, with imports from China accounting for the bulk of the volume.

Cambodia’s exports included garments, footwear, rice and cashew nuts, while imports ranged from electronics to construction materials.

Chinese investment has also surged. In the first quarter of 2026, Cambodia approved projects worth USD 2.5 billion, with China contributing nearly half of the total. Major initiatives include the USD 1.2 billion Funan Techo Canal project, aimed at boosting logistics and connectivity.

PM Hun Manet’s visit will seek to translate these figures into deeper cooperation, reinforcing what both sides describe as a comprehensive strategic partnership.
