Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Zhao Leji Reaffirm Cambodia‑China Partnership, Pledge Stronger Parliamentary Cooperation

BEIJING, June 26, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and China’s top legislator Zhao Leji have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary ties, describing the relationship as one built on mutual trust and enduring friendship.
The meeting took place Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during Hun Sen’s official visit, his spokesperson Chea Thyrith said.
Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, welcomed Hun Sen and the Cambodian delegation, calling the two countries “ironclad friends” that have consistently supported one another.
He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia last year had further advanced bilateral relations, particularly through efforts to build the Cambodia‑China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era, which both sides describe as an all‑weather partnership.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Zhao for the warm reception, saying ties remained strong despite global changes. “Although the world and the climate continue to change, the friendship between Cambodia and China remains unchanged,” he said.
The Cambodian leader highlighted cooperation between executive, legislative and ruling party institutions, expressing hope that legislatures would play a greater role in supporting broader bilateral cooperation.
Zhao responded that the relationship was founded on mutual trust and “cannot be undermined or divided,” urging closer exchanges between the two countries’ legislative bodies.
Both leaders said enhanced parliamentary cooperation would contribute to building the Cambodia‑China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.
The meeting concluded with Zhao wishing Hun Sen and his delegation a successful official visit.
