STUNG TRENG, July 10, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has called on local officials in Stung Treng province to step up public services, maintain social stability and deepen cooperation with neighbouring countries.

Addressing more than 600 provincial, municipal, district and commune officials on July 9, Samdech Techo praised their dedication to developing the northeastern province, pointing to infrastructure upgrades and economic growth in border areas.

He cited the Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant as a major project expanding electricity supply, alongside new bridges and roads linking Stung Treng with neighbouring provinces to boost trade and transport.

He urged commune and sangkat councils to deliver services more efficiently, strengthen tax and customs collection and curb evasion.

He stressed the need to uphold security under the Safe Village‑Commune Policy and tackle crimes including theft, drug trafficking and cybercrime.

Samdech Techo also called for swift resolution of land disputes, greater welfare for veterans and families of fallen soldiers, and stronger conservation of natural resources.

Hun Sen highlighted efforts to protect the Mekong River dolphin population and promote alternative livelihoods for affected communities.

Encouraging closer border trade and economic ties with Laos, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the frontier must remain a zone of peace, friendship and cooperation.

He concluded by praising Stung Treng officials for their contribution to the province’s development and wished them continued success.
