Senate to Consider Bills on International and ASEAN Agreements

PHNOM PENH, July 28, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Senate Standing Committee will meet Wednesday to decide whether to place four draft laws approving international and regional agreements on the agenda of an extraordinary Senate session, the chamber’s secretariat said.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on July 29 at the Senate Palace. The proposed review follows the National Assembly’s approval of the four draft laws earlier this month.

Under Cambodia’s legislative process, bills passed by the assembly are submitted to the Senate for review before final constitutional procedures.

The Standing Committee will consider recommendations from the Senate’s Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Information to include the draft laws on the agenda.

The legislation covers Cambodia’s accession to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment, known as the Cape Town Convention, and its Aircraft Protocol.

It also includes draft laws approving the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Mutual Recognition Arrangements, the ASEAN Sectoral Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Building and Construction Materials, and the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement concerning Type Approval for Automotive Products.

The Standing Committee is also expected to determine the date and agenda of the extraordinary Senate session and appoint its secretariat.

The review reflects Cambodia’s broader effort to align domestic legislation with international and ASEAN commitments, reinforcing the country’s integration into regional and global frameworks.
