PHNOM PENH, April 18, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s First Vice President of the Senate, Ouch Borith, has called on world leaders to renew their commitment to truth, justice and the impartial application of international law, warning that lasting peace cannot be achieved without them.

Speaking at the general debate of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul on April 17, he said principles of peace and justice were increasingly under strain in a rapidly changing global environment.

Drawing on Cambodia’s history of conflict and recovery, Ouch Borith stressed that peace is not abstract but a hard-earned outcome dependent on accountability.

“Lasting peace can only flourish when there is unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and impartial rule of law,” he said.

He cautioned against the manipulation of historical narratives and selective justice, saying such practices erode trust between nations.

Regional stability, he added, depends on strict adherence to treaties, borders and ceasefire agreements “in both letter and spirit.”

The Senate official also highlighted the humanitarian and cultural toll of conflict, noting that civilians bear the greatest burden and that the destruction of heritage represents a loss for all humanity.

He concluded by urging the international community to unite in tackling the root causes of conflict, saying future generations deserve a world where peace is sustained rather than aspirational.
