Pakistan Senate chairman to visit Cambodia on official trip
PHNOM PENH, Feb 2, 2026 (KPT) – Pakistan’s Senate chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani will pay an official visit to Cambodia from February 2 to 5, leading a delegation of senators, officials said Monday.
The trip comes at the invitation of Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian Senate. Gillani, a former prime minister, also serves as founding chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet King Norodom Sihamoni and hold talks with Hun Sen. Courtesy calls are also planned with National Assembly president Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Officials said the visit aims to strengthen ties between Cambodia and Pakistan, with a focus on expanding parliamentary cooperation and dialogue. Talks are expected to cover regional cooperation, peacebuilding and sustainable development.
Cambodia and Pakistan have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, centred on political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges and cooperation in international forums.
In recent years, both sides have stepped up legislative diplomacy, viewing parliamentary contacts as a way to bolster broader bilateral relations.
Gillani’s Senate has played an active role in inter-parliamentary cooperation, including through the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, which promotes dialogue among legislatures on global challenges.
Cambodia has likewise positioned parliamentary diplomacy as a key element of its foreign policy, alongside efforts to promote regional stability and development.
High-level visits between parliamentary leaders are seen as part of these efforts, providing opportunities to reaffirm political ties and discuss cooperation on governance, peacebuilding and sustainable growth.
