PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.17, 2025) — Cambodia’s trade with Japan reached more than $2.09 billion in the first 10 months of 2025, up 19% from the same period last year, according to data from the General Department of Customs and Excise.

From January to October, Cambodia exported goods worth $1.30 billion to Japan, an increase of 13.8%, while imports from Japan totaled $787 million, up 28.8%. The figures show Cambodia recorded a trade surplus of about $522 million.

Lim Heng, vice president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said Nov. 17 that the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) has helped boost bilateral trade by expanding tariff preferences among Cambodia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and ASEAN members. He noted Cambodia’s exports to Japan span multiple sectors, including garments, spare parts and agricultural products.

Hong Vannak, an economist at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said diplomatic ties remain strong and Japanese companies have long maintained confidence in Cambodia. He cited investments such as Aeon malls and electronics factories as examples of Japan’s presence.

In 2024, Cambodia–Japan trade totaled $2.16 billion, up 20.1%, with Cambodian exports valued at $1.4 billion and imports at $752 million.
