TOKYO, July 13, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s ambassador to Japan has hailed educational exchanges as a cornerstone of bilateral relations during the AEON Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony and Reception in Tokyo.

Ambassador Chum Sounry attended the July 10 event organised by the AEON 1% Club Foundation, which brought together scholarship recipients from across Asia studying in Japan, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions, universities, corporate partners and alumni.

In his remarks, Chum expressed appreciation for the foundation’s continued support in expanding opportunities, promoting people‑to‑people exchanges and developing human resources across the region.

He congratulated the scholarship recipients and urged them to make full use of their studies in Japan, stressing that young people play a vital role in advancing cooperation, innovation and sustainable development.

The ambassador highlighted the selection of two Cambodian students as recipients of the 2026 AEON Scholarship, encouraging them to pursue their studies with dedication while contributing to friendship and mutual understanding between Cambodia and Japan.

Speaking on bilateral ties, Chum said education and human resource development remain key foundations of Cambodia–Japan cooperation.

He noted that many Cambodian professionals and leaders have benefited from opportunities in Japan and later contributed to Cambodia’s social and economic development.

The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan said it remains committed to supporting continued educational and cultural exchanges, describing the AEON programme as a valuable bridge between the two nations.
