Etihad Airways Commits to Long-Term Growth in Cambodia’s Aviation Sector
PHNOM PENH (Nov. 01, 2025) — Etihad Airways is deepening its commitment to Cambodia’s aviation sector, with plans to expand flight frequency, support trade and tourism, and explore new destinations across the Kingdom.

The airline officially launched its inaugural flight to Phnom Penh on October 4, 2025, marking its entry into the Cambodian market with four weekly services. Within two months, Etihad plans to increase to six weekly flights, with the long-term goal of offering double-daily service. Flights operate on two-time channels to maximize connectivity, allowing passengers to reach destinations in the Gulf and Europe with minimal layover time.

Javier Alija, Etihad’s Vice President of Global Sales & Distribution, said Cambodia’s growing economy, strategic location, and cultural appeal make it a key market for the airline. “We’re not just flying people — we’re connecting communities, supporting economic flows, and building long-term partnerships,” he said.

Etihad is also exploring the possibility of adding a second Cambodian destination beyond Phnom Penh, citing strong demand and regional potential. The airline is leveraging its fleet for time-sensitive cargo, especially e-commerce, and sees Cambodia as a hub for both passenger and freight traffic.
Cambodia welcomed more than 5.1 million air travelers in the first nine months of 2025, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.
From January through September, the country recorded 47,637 inbound and outbound flights, up 12% year-on-year. Air cargo volume also rose 14%, surpassing 60,000 tons.

State Secretary and spokesman Sinn Chansereyvutha attributed the growth to a strong rebound in outbound Chinese tourism, sustained regional demand from Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan, and the easing of travel restrictions. He also cited the recovery and expansion of airline operations.
Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association for Cambodia Chapther (PATA), welcomed the growth but urged both government and private sector stakeholders to intensify efforts amid rising global competition.
Alija emphasized the importance of building diverse demand across tourism, business, and trade. He praised Cambodia’s efforts to attract investment and noted that rising interest from the UAE and other Gulf countries reflects the Kingdom’s growing global profile.

With strong bilateral ties and a shared vision for connectivity, Etihad aims to play a central role in Cambodia’s aviation future — linking the country to global markets and helping drive sustainable growth.
