Cambodia, Vietnam Plan to Launch Joint Public-Private Dialogue Mechanism
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 3, 2025) — Cambodia and Vietnam are pushing to elevate their economic partnership beyond protocol, with plans to launch a joint public-private dialogue mechanism and expand Vietnamese enterprise presence on Cambodian soil.

Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu met on Thursday to map out sharper bilateral strategies aimed at unlocking new investment flows and streamlining cross-border business operations.
The two sides discussed fast-tracking cooperation in logistics, industrial connectivity, and direct private-sector engagement. Ambassador Nguyen proposed deeper integration of Vietnamese firms into Cambodia’s growing investment landscape, while Minister Sun pledged CDC’s full support in facilitating regulatory access and investor confidence.

The ambassador also praised Cambodia’s participation in Vietnam’s 80th National Day and lauded CDC’s record-breaking investment approvals in 2024. Both sides agreed that amid global uncertainty, flexible and proactive cooperation is key to sustaining growth and regional resilience.
Minister Chanthol welcomed the ambassador’s diplomatic mission and voiced hope for deeper engagement to enhance neighborly ties and mutual benefit. He reaffirmed the CDC’s readiness to facilitate private sector investment from friendly countries and ensure a responsive, investor-friendly environment.

Both parties also discussed the potential establishment of a Cambodia–Vietnam public-private dialogue mechanism to improve the business climate further and expand Vietnamese enterprise presence in Cambodia.
From January to August 2025, bilateral trade reached $5.58 billion, representing a 6.8% year-over-year increase. Cambodian exports rose 11.5% to $2.74 billion, led by rice, rubber, and cassava. Imports from Vietnam totaled $2.84 billion, including fuel, machinery, and electronics, according to the data from the Ministry of Commerce.
