Tuol Tompoung Market Ready to Welcome Visitors During Nokor Sangkran
PHNOM PENH, April 7, 2026 (KPT) – Tuol Tompoung Market is set to host a vibrant “Nokor Sangkran” celebration from April 11 to 19, as part of Phnom Penh’s wider Khmer New Year festivities aimed at boosting local economic activity, officials said Tuesday.
Organizers said preparations for the nine-day event have been completed, with traditional Khmer games, cultural performances and festive decorations designed to attract both local and international visitors. Chomroeun Soklim, head of the Market Management Committee, said the market has been transformed with ornaments and national flags to create a lively atmosphere ahead of the holiday.

Vendors are expecting increased foot traffic as shoppers and tourists gather to celebrate and experience Khmer traditions. Officials said security and safety measures have been strengthened to ensure a safe environment throughout the celebrations.
As one of several major Nokor Sangkran venues across the capital, Tuol Tompoung Market is expected to play a key role in driving consumer spending and supporting small businesses. The initiative reflects government’s broader effort to combine cultural festivities with economic stimulation, reinforcing the city’s appeal during the New Year season.
