PHNOM PENH, April 17, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s capital attracted more than 4.3 million visitors during the three-day Khmer New Year celebrations, officials said Friday, underscoring strong public participation and a festive atmosphere across the city.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration reported that from April 14 to 16, a total of 4.37 million local and international visitors joined festivities, including the large-scale Nokor Sangkran Phnom Penh event staged at multiple venues.

Spokesperson Dor Samphors said celebrations were organized at six major sites, including the former Phnom Penh International Airport, drawing large crowds for traditional games, cultural activities and entertainment programs.

Daily attendance rose steadily, with 983,080 visitors on April 14, 1,565,367 on April 15, and 1,827,990 on April 16. Foreign visitors numbered 7,068, 17,940 and 18,000 respectively.

Similar Sangkran-style events were also held across pagodas and all 14 districts of the capital, boosting participation.

Authorities said the high turnout highlighted successful event organization, providing a joyful and unified atmosphere while maintaining strong security and public order. “The celebrations were conducted in a safe, peaceful and highly festive environment, with no major incidents reported,” Samphors said.

Officials added that the event reinforced Phnom Penh’s image as a safe, vibrant and culturally rich destination, contributing to domestic tourism and local economic activity.
