Cambodia deploys 600 free buses for holiday travel
PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has rolled out 600 public buses to provide free transport during the Khmer New Year, aiming to ease travel costs and improve mobility nationwide, officials said Friday.
The Phnom Penh Capital Administration said the service will run for six days from April 12 to 17, helping citizens return to their hometowns for the traditional holiday.

Prime Minister Hun Manet said the program reflects the government’s commitment to supporting workers and low-income groups by reducing travel expenses during one of the country’s busiest travel periods.
Of the total, 100 buses will operate within Phnom Penh, including routes to Techo International Airport, while 500 will connect the capital with provinces, with return services available after the holiday.
Authorities said free drinking water will be provided onboard to ensure safe and comfortable journeys.
The initiative is part of a long-standing government program designed to facilitate family reunions, promote domestic travel and ease congestion during Khmer New Year.
