PHNOM PENH, Mar. 26, 2026 (KPT) — The Ministry of Education is set to transform schools in border regions into digital learning hubs, part of a wider drive to equip its future workforce with technology skills, officials said Wednesday.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Education, will introduce ICT infrastructure, digital platforms and early exposure to artificial intelligence (AI) in classrooms. Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron said the strategy is designed to ensure students in remote and border areas are not left behind in the country’s digital transformation.

“Developing digital skills from an early age is critical to building a competitive workforce for Cambodia’s future,” he told the conference.

The plan also emphasizes strengthening literacy and numeracy, while encouraging greater parental involvement in children’s learning. Officials said the program reflects a broader effort to bridge the urban rural education gap and promote inclusive development.

Cambodia has accelerated its digital economy ambitions in recent years, aiming to boost productivity and competitiveness. Expanding access to technology driven education in underserved areas is seen as key to preparing young people for jobs in emerging industries and supporting long term growth.

The ministry said the rollout of digital hubs in border schools will be phased, with priority given to regions where access to modern learning tools remains limited.
