PHNOM PENH, Mar. 13, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has issued a statement clarifying recent remarks from Thailand regarding the land boundary survey between the two countries.

On March 11, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a press note urging “good-faith cooperation and sincerity” from Cambodia in advancing border demarcation. Phnom Penh said the statement contained inaccuracies and provided official clarifications.

Cambodia denied reports that its forces fired a 40-mm grenade on February 24, saying a diplomatic note sent the same day confirmed the incident did not occur and was jointly verified by military liaison teams.

Officials urged that the incorrect report not be circulated further, in line with the General Border Committee’s December 2025 meeting.

Cambodia also said the Ta Oum Statue in Preah Vihear Province lies entirely within Cambodian territory, citing maps from the Franco-Siamese Mixed Commission under the 1904 Convention and 1907 Treaty. Cambodia rejected Thailand’s L7017 map as legally unfounded.

Officials added that Cambodia’s Joint Boundary Commission has sent five invitations to Thailand to resume technical work, reaffirming commitment to peaceful resolution under international law and bilateral agreements.
