PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has reaffirmed its support for a rules-based international order and regional cooperation at a major conference on Indian Ocean governance.

Speaking on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Secretary of State Un Kheang addressed the Indian Ocean Conference 2026, held April 10–12 in Port Louis, Mauritius.

The meeting, themed “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance,” gathered ministers and senior officials from more than 30 countries.

Un Kheang outlined key challenges facing the region and urged greater collective action. He reiterated Cambodia’s backing for an Indo-Pacific strategy that promotes peace and stability, respects ASEAN centrality, and avoids being used against other states.

He highlighted Cambodia’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea this year, describing it as proof of the country’s commitment to equal application of international law.

On the sidelines, Un Kheang met Mauritian official Dhananjay Ramful, Bangladesh’s Khalilur Rahman and Bhutan’s D. N. Dhungyel.

Officials said talks focused on strengthening ties and expanding cooperation in politics, trade and tourism.
