Cambodia reaffirms commitment to peaceful border resolution with Thailand

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 4 (KPT) – Cambodia has reiterated its commitment to resolving border issues with Thailand peacefully, pledging to pursue negotiations under international law and existing treaties.
Government spokesperson Pen Bona said Wednesday the country continues to work actively through the Joint Border Committee mechanism, in line with the joint statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee in December.
He stressed that Cambodia will firmly protect its international border line as established by the Indo China Siam Border Commission, rejecting any unilateral attempts to alter boundaries by force.
Bona noted that diplomatic missions, international organisations and media presence along the frontier provide oversight and support for a peaceful resolution.
He highlighted a recent visit by Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and La Francophonie Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo to Siem Reap, where they met displaced citizens and distributed aid.
Government figures show more than 92 percent of the 64,000 displaced people have returned home, while around 50,000 remain in temporary shelters with continued state support until conditions allow safe return.
