Cambodia sets up fund to aid teachers hit by border conflict
PHNOM PENH, 13 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has announced the creation of a Solidarity Fund to support teachers along the border who lost homes and property during recent clashes with Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron unveiled the initiative at the closing of the Education Congress, saying part of the ministry’s Equity Fund would be allocated and additional contributions sought.
The fund will assist 38 teachers in Prey Chan and Chokchey villages. Hang described the measure as an expression of solidarity with educators affected by what he called Thailand’s “war of aggression.”
He also announced partnerships linking schools with central and provincial units to aid reconstruction.
During the December 2025 conflict, more than 1,000 schools closed, disrupting classes for over 200,000 students and affecting 7,000 teachers. Authorities say 87 percent of displaced people have since returned home, though more than 82,000 remain unable to do so.
