Samdech Hun Sen Hosts Vietnamese Communist Party Chief on State Visit to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Feb 6, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Senate President and acting head of state, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, hosted Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary To Lam at the Royal Palace on Friday, representing King Norodom Sihamoni during the official state visit.

Officials said Samdech Techo Hun Sen presided over the welcoming ceremony and granted a royal audience on behalf of the monarch, who had delegated his duties. The visit was made at the King’s invitation, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his stay, To Lam was scheduled to lay wreaths at national landmarks including the Independence Monument, the mausoleum of former King Norodom Sihanouk, and the Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship Monument.

Beyond state events, To Lam also engaged in party to party activities. He held bilateral talks with Hun Sen in his role as President of the Cambodian People’s Party and joined a trilateral meeting with Hun Sen and Laos’ Communist Party General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith.

The two leaders later presided over a groundbreaking ceremony for a school in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district, funded by Vietnamese assistance.

Cambodia’s foreign ministry said the visit highlighted close ties between Cambodia and Vietnam and their shared commitment to deepening cooperation based on good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and long term stability.
