PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 21, 2025) — Russia has voiced support for an immediate ceasefire and renewed dialogue as Cambodia seeks diplomatic solutions to its border conflict with Thailand, while rejecting disinformation circulating around the crisis.

Russian Ambassador Anatoly Borovik met Dec. 19 with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, where both sides discussed strengthening Cambodia–Russia relations and addressing regional tensions.

Sokhonn briefed the envoy on the gravity of the conflict and thanked Russia for its condolences over civilian deaths and sympathy for affected families. Both officials dismissed media reports alleging Russian citizens were serving as mercenaries in Cambodia, warning that misinformation risks inflaming tensions and undermining peace efforts.

Borovik reaffirmed Russia’s support for a ceasefire and peaceful resolution through dialogue, echoing Cambodia’s calls for de-escalation. He also highlighted Russia’s humanitarian solidarity, noting embassy contributions to relief efforts for displaced families through the Cambodian Red Cross.

Beyond the conflict, the two officials emphasized deepening bilateral cooperation as Cambodia and Russia prepare to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, pledging to strengthen ties across political, humanitarian and cultural fields.
