PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 2, 2025) — Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen met Tuesday with the Czech Republic’s newly appointed ambassador, Marketa Kolc Hajkova, in Phnom Penh, marking a fresh chapter in bilateral relations.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed Hajkova and said her early visit following her appointment demonstrated Prague’s commitment to strengthening ties with Cambodia.

He highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations, noting that King Norodom Sihamoni studied in the Czech Republic — a connection he described as an enduring symbol of bilateral relations.

Hajkova thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for the audience and said she would prioritize boosting trade and investment during her tenure.

She pledged to encourage Czech businesses to explore opportunities in Cambodia, particularly in agriculture, with investors showing interest in pepper cultivation.

She added that the two countries are preparing to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and expressed hope for expanded cooperation through cultural events and potential high-level visits.

Samdech Techo welcomed her proposals, citing “significant potential” for deeper collaboration, especially in the economic sector.

He said cooperation could also be strengthened through broader regional ties, with Cambodia a member of ASEAN and the Czech Republic part of the European Union.
