PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 28, 2025) — Cambodia and China’s Xizang Autonomous Region are preparing to deepen tourism cooperation, agreeing to explore direct flights, promote investment and develop a formal partnership as part of the Cambodia–China Tourism Year 2025.

Tourism Minister Huot Hak received Jiancan, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Xizang, and his high-level delegation Wednesday at the Ministry of Tourism for a courtesy call and policy discussion.

Jiancan highlighted the transformation of Xizang over the past six decades under the direction of President Xi Jinping, noting rapid development, poverty reduction and improved livelihoods for Zang minority communities. He said the region now attracts more than 50 million domestic and international tourists annually, driven by cultural, natural and religious tourism.

The delegation shared Xizang’s experience in creative tourism development and invited Hak to pay an official visit to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential to Chinese travelers and investors. Hak welcomed the invitation, calling it a meaningful step toward exchanging best practices. He emphasized Cambodia’s peace, stability and progress as favorable conditions for investment.

Hak proposed exploring direct flights between Xizang and Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, organizing tourism business forums and investor study tours. Both sides agreed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation, expected to be signed during Hak’s planned visit to Xizang in early 2026.
