Cambodia Reaffirms Ceasefire Commitment, Rejects Use of Force in Border Dispute

PHNOM PENH, March 18, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to a ceasefire with Thailand and rejected any attempt to alter the frontier through force, amid rising tensions over reported Thai military activities along the border.

Government spokesman Pen Bona told reporters Wednesday that Cambodia“strictly respects” the ceasefire agreement signed on December 27, 2025, and all provisions of the joint statement reached during bilateral border talks.

“We maintain a firm stance to ensure a proper and just solution and long-term peace,” he said, stressing Cambodia’s reliance on international law and historical treaties.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has led diplomatic efforts, meeting international partners including South Korea and the World Bank, while engaging with ambassadors and the UN resident coordinator to address the humanitarian impact of border tensions.

Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn recently visited Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, discussing the dispute alongside wider security cooperation.

Officials say Cambodia’s active foreign policy underscores its determination to safeguard territorial integrity while promoting international partnerships.

Cambodia insists all disputes with Thailand must be resolved peacefully and in line with international law.
