PHNOM PENH/VIENTIANE, June 15, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Laos have exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, reaffirming their commitment to deepen cooperation and strengthen their long‑standing strategic partnership.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn congratulated his Lao counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane, and the Lao people on the milestone.

He said the anniversary offered an opportunity to reflect on achievements since ties were established on June 15, 1956, noting that relations had grown steadily over seven decades on the basis of mutual trust, respect and shared aspirations.

Sokhonn expressed confidence that efforts to advance the countries’ “Comprehensive and Long‑Lasting Strategic Partnership” would support national development and help address regional and global challenges.

In a separate message dated June 12, Phomvihane congratulated Sokhonn and Cambodian officials, saying the traditional friendship had continued to strengthen, citing regular high‑level exchanges and the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive and Long‑Lasting Strategic Partnership in 2019.

He pointed to recent engagements, including the 15th Joint Commission meeting in Vientiane in November 2025 and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith’s state visit to Cambodia in February 2026.

Phomvihane said he was ready to work closely with Sokhonn to implement agreements reached during those meetings, aiming to deliver practical benefits for both nations.

The exchange of messages underscores the importance both governments place on their partnership as they celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations, highlighting its role in regional cooperation and development.
