Phnom Penh, June 20, (KPT)—Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said he had held an informal discussion with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Kazan, Russia, during which he reiterated Cambodia’s position on border issues between the two countries.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that Cambodia remains committed to resolving disputes peacefully and in line with international law.

On maritime boundaries, he said both sides should continue with the compulsory conciliation process under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in which Cambodia and Thailand are already engaged.

Regarding the land border, Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s preference for existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), as set out in previous agreements.

He urged Thailand to appoint its chief representative to the JBC and begin joint survey and demarcation work “as soon as possible,” in line with Point 3 of a joint statement signed by both countries on 27 December 2025.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added there was “no need to discuss” the reopening of land border crossings at this stage.
