Cambodia’s Hun Sen Begins China Visit, Set to Hold Talks with Xi Jinping

PHNOM PENH, June 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Senate President and ruling party leader Samdech Techo Hun Sen departed Thursday for a three‑day official and friendship visit to China, where he is scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping and other senior leaders, officials said.
Samdech Techo, who also heads the Cambodian People’s Party, led a high‑level delegation from Techo International Airport in Takhmao City, Kandal province.
He is accompanied by CPP vice‑president Tea Banh and senior figures from the legislature and government. The trip, running from June 25 to 27, was made at Xi’s invitation, according to the CPP.
During his stay, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will hold talks with Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China. He is expected to meet Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
Hun Sen will also pay a royal audience to King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, who are currently in China.
The Senate Secretariat said the visit would reinforce the two countries’ “ironclad friendship” and expand cooperation under their comprehensive strategic partnership.
China remains Cambodia’s largest trading partner and a major source of investment, with ties spanning politics, economics and culture.
The trip underscores Cambodia’s close alignment with Beijing as both countries deepen political and economic cooperation across multiple sectors.
