ODDAR MEANCHEY, June 25, 2026 (KPT) — An ASEAN observer mission has visited a border area between Cambodia and Thailand to assess the implementation of ceasefire measures agreed by the two countries, Cambodia’s defence ministry said Thursday.

In a statement, spokeswoman Chhum Socheata said Cambodia’s Coordination and Liaison Group facilitated the visit by the ASEAN Observer Team to Prasat Ta Mone Sen Chey Pagoda in Oddar Meanchey Province.

The delegation, led by the Philippine head of mission, arrived at 9:35 a.m. to observe, verify and report on the situation along the frontier.

The ministry said the mission was intended to review compliance with measures outlined in the joint statement issued after the ceasefire took effect.

It added that locations attacked by the Thai military during the 2025 border conflict were civilian facilities, including schools, hospitals, pagodas and homes, which suffered extensive damage and remain unusable.

Thailand has previously rejected accusations that it deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee signed in December 2025, as well as the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement reached in October 2025.

Officials said the aim is to restore normal life, peace, stability and security for border communities.
