PHNOM PENH, 13 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has welcomed a delegation from the ASEAN Observer Team led by General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, who is on a four day official visit.

On Friday morning, Brawner visited Site 2 in Serei Saophoan City, Banteay Meanchey province, where Colonel Mohd Farid bin Mohd Yusop, head of the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia, briefed him on operations.

The visit comes as the Philippines prepares to assume chairmanship of the observer team in 2026, taking over from Malaysia.

Cambodian officials said the mechanism is vital in monitoring the ceasefire agreement with Thailand, promoting transparency and building trust.

During talks with Prime Minister Hun Manet in Phnom Penh, Brawner pledged that Manila would lead the observer team impartially and continue supporting efforts to achieve lasting peace along the border.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening military to military cooperation with Cambodia, citing long standing ties between the two armed forces.
