Lao leader thanks Cambodia for anniversary congratulations

VIENTIANE, Jan 19, 2026 (KPT) – Lao leader Thongloun Sisoulith has expressed gratitude to Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen for his congratulatory message marking the 50th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, officials said Monday.
Thongloun, general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), also thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for sending Privy Councillor Tea Banh, vice president of the Cambodian People’s Party, to attend the celebrations in Vientiane on December 2.
He described the Cambodian delegation’s presence as a “great honour and strong encouragement.”
The Lao leader highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two neighbours, pledging to further strengthen ties for the benefit of both peoples and to promote peace and stability in the region.
He also extended New Year wishes to Hun Sen and the Cambodian people.
Earlier this month, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated Thongloun on his re-election as LPRP general secretary at the party’s 12th National Congress.
Hun Sen said the outcome reflected confidence in Thongloun’s leadership and ability to guide Laos toward continued peace and prosperity. He reaffirmed the importance of traditional ties between the CPP and LPRP, as well as between the two countries.
