PHNOM PENH, Jan.09,2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen has congratulated Lao leader Thongloun Sisoulith on his re-election as general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).
In a message dated Jan. 8, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who also heads the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), said Thongloun’s re-election at the LPRP’s 12th National Congress reflected the confidence of the party and the Lao people in his leadership.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the outcome showed trust in Thongloun’s ability to guide Laos toward continued peace, stability and prosperity.
He expressed confidence that under Thongloun’s leadership, the LPRP would successfully implement policies adopted at the congress and continue to gain public support.
The Cambodian leader reaffirmed the importance of long-standing ties between Cambodia and Laos, highlighting the traditional friendship and cooperation between the CPP and the LPRP, as well as between the two countries.
He said he believed bilateral relations would continue to deepen under the spirit of “comprehensive cooperation and long-lasting stability.”
Samdech Techo Hun Sen wished Thongloun success in his leadership responsibilities and in advancing the well-being of the Lao people.
The LPRP’s 12th National Congress concluded Thursday in Vientiane, where Thongloun was elected general secretary of the party’s 12th Central Committee.
