German Delegation Briefed on Cambodia’s Investment Reforms and Infrastructure Drive
PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Senior officials have sought to attract German investment by showcasing Cambodia’s expanding infrastructure network, business‑friendly reforms and investor protection mechanisms, during talks with a visiting delegation from Germany’s parliament, officials said Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, met Thomas Rachel, a member of the Bundestag’s Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development, during the delegation’s June 1–3 visit. German Ambassador Stefan Messerer also attended.

Chanthol underscored Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining an open and competitive investment environment, citing political stability, strong macroeconomic fundamentals, human capital development and institutional reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business. He highlighted incentives under the Investment Law and multiple dialogue channels, including the Government‑Private Sector Forum, designed to address investor concerns.
A key focus was Cambodia’s investment in strategic infrastructure, notably the expansion of Sihanoukville Deep Sea Port and development of the Funan Techo Canal, projects expected to reduce logistics costs and strengthen trade connectivity.
The German delegation welcomed the exchange, noting Cambodia’s rapid development and candid discussion on investment promotion, governance and resilience. Broader issues, including elections, women’s role in public administration and long‑term economic planning, were also raised.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation, with delegates saying Cambodia’s reforms and infrastructure upgrades could help position the country as a competitive regional hub.
