PHNOM PENH, June 8, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia is seeking more Chinese investment in agro‑processing and supply chain industries as part of efforts to strengthen domestic value chains and boost industrial competitiveness, officials said Monday.

The push was highlighted during a meeting between Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Xue Dong, the newly appointed Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, following the farewell visit of outgoing counselor Zhong Jie.

Vuthy welcomed Dong to his new role and proposed establishing a Cambodia–China Green Agro‑Industrial Processing Zone focused on cashew, rubber and plantation wood industries. He said the initiative would require investment across the value chain, from raw material production to processing and value‑added manufacturing.

He also called for more Chinese investment in upstream industries supporting Cambodia’s garment, footwear and travel goods sector, to reduce reliance on imported inputs and strengthen supply chain resilience.

Dong reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Cambodia–China economic cooperation. Both sides also discussed upcoming meetings of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Coordination Committee and the Cambodia–China Investment and Economic Cooperation Working Group, scheduled in China later this year.
