PHNOM PENH, June 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Russia have reaffirmed their long‑standing partnership, highlighting decades of cooperation in education, development and human resource training during a reception marking Russia’s National Day in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the event at the Sofitel Phnom Penh on June 11, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Borovik said Cambodia holds a “special place” among Russia’s partners, describing the relationship as a durable bond of friendship built on mutual trust and respect.

He noted that people‑to‑people ties had been strengthened through education and economic cooperation over many decades.

“We highly value the caring attitude of the Cambodian people toward chapters of our shared history,” Borovik said.

He added that more than 8,000 Cambodian students have studied in Russia and the former Soviet Union, with many now serving in senior roles in government, business and scientific institutions.

Moscow, he said, remains committed to expanding educational opportunities for Cambodian students.

Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority, also addressed the reception, saying the relationship has been built on trust and respect over seven decades.

He highlighted Russia’s contribution to Cambodia’s human resource development, describing it as vital for post‑conflict recovery and stability.

“It is generosity that makes one country trust another and work together. This friendship will continue to grow,” he said.
