Tropical Storm Haishen to influence Cambodia weather with heavy rain and storms

PHNOM PENH, July 14, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is expected to face increased rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms from July 14 to 16 as Tropical Storm Haishen affects regional weather patterns, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said Tuesday.
The ministry said a low‑pressure system over the western Pacific has developed into Tropical Storm No. 11, Haishen (T2611), influencing the southwest monsoon across the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong Basin and Cambodian waters.
Cambodia is not on the storm’s projected path, but its effects are forecast to intensify local weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm No. 9, Bavi, is expected to weaken and dissipate on July 15, while Haishen will continue to affect regional weather until July 17.
The ministry forecast rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms across much of the country, with conditions varying by region. In the plains, temperatures will range from 25°C to 36°C, with winds averaging 5 metres per second.
Provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom and Phnom Penh could see rain affecting about 40 percent of the area.
In plateau regions, temperatures will range between 24°C and 35°C, with winds averaging 4 metres per second. Kampong Speu, Pailin, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri may experience rain and storms affecting half the area.
Coastal provinces are forecast to bear the heaviest impact, with rain and strong winds affecting about 70 percent of Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep. Sea wave heights are expected to range from 0.5 to 1.75 metres.
